The Way of Jesus - Forgiveness Print
Written by Edward Pillar
Sunday, 18 March 2007

"You are amazing"

  • God made you that way
  • A picture: God...You...creation - in relationship
  • "You are amazing - let's keep it that way"

'We didn't mean to go to sea!'

  • Drifting from the anchor

Sin.

'All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.' Romans 3:23

  • Sin impacts your soul and therefore your ‘humanity' negatively.
  • Sin deceives and mistreats and undermines relationships.
  • Sin promises much and delivers emptiness and self-hatred.
  • Sin corrupts our souls.
  • Sin denigrates our God-created humanity.
  • Sin - is any action against our design (in the image of God.)
  • Sin: acting against our humanity, against justice, mercy, kindness, lack of engagement with neighbour, lying, cheating, deception, lust, greed, covetousness, desertion...

We all stand in need of forgiveness...of cleansing...of restoration

The Good Samaritan...the way we were (not) supposed to be.

This is not about God not liking you

This is about you being released and set free to live and to be and to act as you were designed to live/be/act...

The critical question is:

  • Who can forgive your sin?
  • Who can set you free?
  • Who can restore you?

Jesus' forgiving of this man's sins:

  • as a restoration of him to relationship with God,
  • an opportunity for him begin again,
  • to grow, to develop, to mature under the wings of God,
  • a restoration to humanity.

Today...we come to Jesus.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

  • Forgiveness is free
  • But it will constantly call to you to live free, in the footsteps and love of Jesus.
